" Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts serves three primary roles: presenter of superb artistic programming; national leader in arts and education and community relations; and manager of the Lincoln Center campus. Lincoln Center was formed for the purpose of sustaining, encouraging, and promoting musical and performing arts, including opera, concerts, ballet, drama and other forms of artistic expression, and of educating the general public with relation thereto. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts presents over 5,000 events, performances, tours, and educational activities every year. The organization's series “Lincoln Center Presents” includes "American Songbook," "Great Performers," "Lincoln Center Festival," "Lincoln Center Out of Doors," "Midsummer Night Swing," and the "Mostly Mozart Festival." These programs offer more than 400 performances of music, opera, theater, dance, and multi-media events each year. In addition, the organization's educational branch, the Lincoln Center Institute for the Arts in Education, puts on programs that serve more than 200,000 students enrolled in over 400 schools grades K-12 throughout the metropolitan area and across the nation. The Lincoln Center Out of Doors program puts on more than 100 free and family-oriented music, dance, theater, puppetry, and other offerings each August.
