Programs

Founded in 1982, the Museum is one of the world’s most successful historic ship museums, drawing more than one million visitors annually. The Museum’s exhibitions feature a historical aircraft carrier, the USS Intrepid, the NASA space shuttle Enterprise, a collection of 27 World War II and Cold War era aircraft, a British Airways Concorde, the Cold War era submarine Growler, and a Soyuz TMA-6 spacecraft that traveled from the International Space Station in 2005. The Museum’s facilities also include a 243-seat theater, an 18,000 square foot education center and a publicly accessible pier that is a part of the Hudson River Park Trust. With one of New York City’s most unique institutional settings for education programs, the Museum uses history and technology to inspire innovation. A century of technological firsts informs visitors about modern advancements, showcasing what is possible, inspiring people to dream and providing a platform from which to develop the next generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering and math. Additionally, the Museum also plays an integral role in the local and national community, hosting a wide range of public events for youth, teachers, families, senior citizens, veterans and service men and women.
