Evaluation Conclusions

Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County strives to teach the history of the Holocaust, a unique catastrophe that reflects the horrors of anti-Semitism, and to demonstrate the destructive nature of prejudice, hatred, apathy, and violence against all minorities. Holocaust Center’s programs for teachers and students offer class tours of the Center, survivor speakers, literary and art competitions, art exhibitions, sample lesson plans, teleconferencing programs, curriculum development workshops, and various instructional materials. In addition, the Holocaust Center conducts training to provide teachers with historical background and teaching strategies. The Holocaust Center’s Tolerance Day is an annual intensive tolerance workshop that enables middle school students to work in groups to deal with prejudice and bias they encounter at school. Through its membership in the Educational Enterprise Zone, the Center provides interactive videoconferencing programs, during which Holocaust survivors give their testimony, with the remainder of the testimony obtained through questions asked by the students. Additionally, the Holocaust Center is working on a Children’s Memorial Garden that will be dedicated to all the innocent young lives that were lost during the Holocaust.
