Evaluation Conclusions

Groove With Me meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Groove With Me's program consists of dance classes for varying age groups and levels. The Beginner Movement classes are offered in jazz/funk, tap, ballet, hip hop and movement with a goal to improve gross motor skills. Children learn about the ways their bodies can move and start to learn how to express what is contained within their imaginations. The Intermediate Program is made up of jazz, funk, tap, ballet and hip-hop. On the first day of class, the girls brainstorm their own rules, how they like to be treated, and how they think the teacher should be treated. Throughout their semesters they continue to talk and think about their actions and the actions of others. Then, the girls are put into groups to create a choreography, which is often included in the classes' upcoming performances. The Teen Program teaches girls the contextual meanings of dance, using a variety of choreographic processes and structures to plan an ensemble performance. They create a piece that uses discussion, spoken words, tableaus, a mixture of modern dance and hip-hop, as well as improvisation to create this personal work.
