Fortune Society is dedicated to educating the public about prisons, criminal justice issues, and the root causes of crime. The organization provides education, career, development, counseling, substance abuse treatment, housing, advocacy and other services. Fortune Society’s Counseling Services Unit provides crisis intervention services such as food, shelter and clothing, conducts needs assessments, provides one-on-one and group counseling, as well as makes referrals to other programs within or outside of Fortune Society. The organization's in-house school offers educational programs in Adult Basic Education, Math, English and GED preparation. Career Development Unit aids in preparing for, obtaining and maintaining employment through instructional workshops and trainings. Additionally, the organization provides housing, advocacy, HIV/AIDS case management, family services, alternatives to incarceration, court advocacy and outreach.
