"Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rockland County is a multi-service, national gold standard award winning, and pre-eminent, 4 time NYS Better Business Bureau accredited youth mentoring organization serving “at-risk” youth from one-parent homes between the ages of 7 – 18 years throughout all Rockland communities. As the oldest, largest, and most effective youth mentoring organization in Rockland County, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been the leader in one-to-one youth mentoring services for over 30 years. Through a unique program donating family assistance where needed such as clothing, bedding and small kitchen appliances, as well as providing site- and community-based long-term mentoring experiences, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rockland County has been effective in making a significantly positive, direct, and lasting impact on the lives of young people. Fully screened, professionally supported adult mentors are matched in a partnership for up to eleven years with disadvantaged children and youth from low income families assisting in personal goal setting, promoting academic achievement, and offering inspiration to grow into healthy productive adults as a preventive approach to resistance and avoidance of negative peer influences, anti-social behavior, delinquency, criminal activities, substance/ alcohol abuse, school violence, and street gang involvement/membership."
