" Reach Out and Read prepares America’s youngest children –with a special focus on children 0-5 year-old –to succeed in school by having doctors and other medical professionals incorporate Reach Out and Read’s evidence- based model into regular pediatric checkups. They advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and give developmentally-appropriate books to children. We emphasize working with children raised in low-income communities. Families served by Reach Out and Read read together more often, and their children enter kindergarten with larger vocabularies, stronger language skills, and a six-month developmental edge. "

Read Out and Read of Greater New York represents over 200 Reach Out and Read program sites in hospitals and community health centers throughout the five boroughs of New York City, Long Island and seven counties North of the city: Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester. Presently, the organization serves over a quarter million children.
