Stated Purpose:
" Association to Benefit Children (ABC) is dedicated to championing the right of children to a safe, happy, healthy childhood. Hunger, poverty, homelessness, abuse, neglect, substance abuse, failing schools, and disease endanger children's welfare and undermine their futures. In response and in order to meet the complex needs of seriously at-risk children and their families, ABC's programs are replicable, comprehensive, cost-effective, and provide the highest quality early childhood education, educational advocacy, housing, health and mental health services, crisis intervention, family support and preservation, year-round youth programs, and an open door to the community as a refuge and resource for destitute, isolated families. "

Evaluation Conclusions

Association to Benefit Children (ABC) meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

ABC's programs include: Cassidy's Place - a developmental and therapeutic early childhood center for disadvantaged children and children with medical and developmental challenges that blends Preschool Special Education, Head Start and Universal Pre-Kindergarten services; Merricat's Castle School - a preschool that integrates homeless, disabled, and terminally ill children with typically developing children from the school's Yorkville neighborhood; Permanent Supportive Housing - a housing program for eight formerly homeless families living with HIV and AIDS; The Keith Haring School - for infants and toddlers who live at ABC's Permanent Supportive Housing as well as babies from the community; Cody Gifford House - center-based and home-based early intervention services for fragile and vulnerable infants and toddlers and their families; and Echo Park - a one-stop, multi-service neighborhood family center in the heart of East Harlem, a home to a myriad of seamlessly integrated programs designed to strengthen and preserve families.
