VCG Governance Matters is a nonprofit organization founded in 1969 by the Harvard Business School Club of New York whose mission focuses on strengthening the governance and management ability of nonprofit Boards of Directors. Their special focus is on bringing together Boards needing new members – and individuals who wish to serve – across boundaries of skill, ethnicity, age and geography. VCG is unique in its field as the only organization that focuses on ALL aspects of nonprofit governance and JUST nonprofit governance. Services that VCG Governance Matters currently offers to strengthen the governance of the nonprofit sector include: (1) Bringing together Board candidates & nonprofit Boards by undertaking targeted searches for Boards seeking candidates, placing corporate executives on nonprofit Boards and coaching them through the election process; (2) Working to make Boards more effective through our Board consulting practice, which assists clients in developing the most effective governance structures and best Board management practices; and (3) Providing ongoing education opportunities to potential and sitting Board members to learn about Board roles and responsibilities and develop their boardroom skills through our monthly roundtable series, our outreach trainings to first time Board candidates, and the resources available on our VCG Governance Matters website.
