Founded in 1974, AALDEF has a 20-person staff of attorneys, community organizers, and policy advocates who conduct multilingual educational campaigns, support grass-roots organizing efforts, advocate for fair government policies, provide assistance at free legal advice clinics and litigate cases. We are assisted by scores of cooperating attorneys from the nation’s top law firms, and we work in cooperation with a wide network of bar associations, member organizations, social service providers and community groups. We focus our efforts in several priority areas: economic justice, immigrants’ rights, voting rights and civic participation, educational equity and youth rights, housing and environmental justice, post 9/11 civil liberties issues, and the elimination of hate violence, police misconduct and human trafficking.
